Happenings in June - Dessert Story + TungLok Signatures + Mariners' Corner Restaurant

Thursday 1/6/17

Began my June with a dinner catch up with GF. We usually have our meet up over lunch which was a bit too short for us since we only have an hour. This time round, we met up for dinner which allow us to have ample time to catch up.

We have our dinner at Xin Wang Hong Kong CafĂ© situated at HarbourFront Centre. This is a good place for casual dining and not too crowded. We could sat there for hours to chit chat.

I ordered the set meal that comes with a glass of ice lemon drink, soup of the day and a main course.

Here's what I have for my main course.

Thanks GF for getting me some souvenirs from her Tokyo trip. We also shared with each other about our upcoming trip and our overseas trip experience. We always enjoyed each other company because we can relate many things together and have neverending topics to share. Let's have another round of dinner soon.

Friday 2/6/17

Finally it's Friday again, weekend is approaching. It has sort of been a mandatory for us to eat out for lunch during Friday, to have a sumptuous affair to welcome the weekend. We have our lunch at Aston which offers a variety of side dishes to go with different variety of meat.

My choice of selection: Char grilled chicken with potato salad and onion rings at $9.90 net. No GST and service charge.

I have a bad afternoon that day that make me feel I am not suitable in the position that I am at. At that moment, I really regretted not taking the chance to try out something different. I should go for what really suit me and what I am good at instead of what others think will be good.

I ended my day with something sweet to sweeten up my unhappy day. I tried out Dessert Story for the first time, a place for people to enjoy wholesome oriental desserts.

I ordered Peanut Ice Cream Roll at $3.50, a famous dessert in Taiwan.
The ice cream was wrapped in a popiah skin together with peanut bits. The exterior was very soft so be careful when you eat, if not all the bits and ice cream will dropped out, making it messy to eat. The  popiah skin was soaked with the ice cream, tasted so delicious.

We also tried the milk pudding cendol at $5.50. I love the milky sweetness of the coconut cream and gula melaka.

Hope next week will be a better week ahead.

Monday 5/6/17

A blue Monday. Dreadful for the discussion later on. Nevertheless, we have a sumptuous lunch at TungLok Signatures. Each of us have a 6 course individual lunch set and my lunch cost about $56. The lunch was also to farewell GH so we treated him for the lunch. That explained why my lunch was so costly too.

We have the Deep-fried Prawns with Salted Egg Yolk and Fresh Fruits.
The prawn was great but one wasn't enough for me.

Dumpling soup was delicious and soothing.

Steamed Sliced Australian Barramundi with Preserved Vegetables. We don't really enjoy it because it has this translucent sticky sticky substance in the meat.
The dessert was Osmanthus Jelly.

Test tube drink to end off our lunch.
All the best GH for future endeavour. Hope you new workplace will be a better place for you to strike even better.

The question popped out to me again and I have 2 days for consideration. I think I know what to do this time round.

Wednesday 7/6/17

We went back to Nana Green Tea for lunch today, one of the frequent place we visited for lunch.
Usually I always ordered the same thing whenever I came here so I decided to try something different today.

I tried on Chicken Cutlet Curry Rice. The portion might seem lesser compared to Chicken Nanban as the other comes with potato salad and veggie, but I still feel full after finishing it.

The timeline is up, this time round, I decided to go for it. No matter good or bad, I really want to have a change.

Saturday 10/6/17

We made our way down to City Hall to check out the various money changer stalls to compare the rates and chose the best rate to change our Hong Kong currency. We will be going to Hong Kong in another month time and already sort of got our itinerary planned. Now what's left is just to wait for the day to arrive. So excited.

Feeling hungry since I only had brunch earlier on, we went for early dinner at 5pm at Just Acia. I have cravings for their wide variety of ice cream flavours.

While waiting for our main course, we shared a cup of chocolate and vanilla soft serve mix.

I have my all-time favourite crispy chicken rice where I just love crispy chicken so much. Simple and comforting.

Taro, green tea and strawberry ice cream.
Of all, I love taro flavour the most. Super delicious and addictive.

We have been running out of places to go during weekend, so we always went to our regular hangout places to just walk around.

Sunday 11/6/17

Today was a relaxing day for us as we just lazed at home until dinner time. It's been awhile since we just spent our time at home, I think since my exam period last month. It's nice to do nothing once in awhile.

Since Father's Day is approaching next week, we brought bf's family out for a zichar dinner at nearby coffeeshop. Spending quality time with family is also important and should not be neglected. Aiming to spend time on that too.

Tuesday 13/6/17

We went Aston again for the second time in the month of June, we love coming here for the western food because it tasted good and the price is quite valuable at $9.90.

Once I like something, I always ordered the same time. Char grilled chicken and onion rings had become like my fix selection. The only item changing was the other side dish. This time round, I opt for mashed potato. I like this combination and I foresee ordering this selection again.

We went to try the new Starbucks Frappuccino that was having 1 for 1 promotion - Matcha Earl Grey Jelly Frappuccino. Earl Grey tea is transformed into a delightful jelly layer that filled the bottom of the drink and finished with Matcha powder. The drink was very tasty and a rich indulgence.

Wednesday 14/6/17

We discovered a new dining place located at Cantonment Road that serve quality food at decent pricing. Best to come here during weekdays lunch hour because they have set lunch promotion.

Mariners' Corner Restaurant is a well-known hang out area and dining place for sailors. The restaurant has a very cozy setting with sailor theme that make it a perfect place for chill out.

I ordered the lunch set at $11.90++ that consist of a soup, main course, drink and dessert of the day.

First up, we have soup of the day and garlic bread.
I love dipping the garlic bread into the soup to soak up the flavour of the soup. It tasted delicious eating it this way.

I have grilled dory fish as my main course. The fish stayed moist and retained its tenderness. I enjoyed every bite of it.

A cup of tea and cake to end off my meal.

I personally find that the food served here are pretty similar to the concept of Jack's Place. In term of valuable meal and portion size, Mariners' Corner Restaurant definitely stand ahead of Jack's Place.

I always prefer tea over coffee.
The taste of the tea was just nice with milk and sugar added. I liked to have a smell of the aromatic tea before drinking it.

With this, I end my night here. Good night.
