Happenings in January - Hidden Figures Movie + Miam Miam with Clique

Wednesday 25/1/17

Met up with the girls for a movie date at Filmgarde @ Bugis+. Thanks GF for bringing me for the movie preview of Hidden Figures and happy belated birthday to you. We have the opportunity to watch the movie way ahead of others which is only release on 23 Feb 2017.

Based on a real life stories, the movie featured the success stories of 3 African-American women - Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia) and Mary Jackson (Janelle).

Took place in the 1960s where the entire white community is prejudiced against the `coloured’ skin, Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, and Katherine Johnson show us how they overcome the prejudice with their incredible knowledge and desire to dream big, and become true American heroes. They successfully help launch astronaut John Glenn into orbit.

Living in a multi-racial harmonious country, we never really experienced such an extreme discrimination like having 'colored' toilet, pantry and education. The movie shows us how is it really like back in the 1960s where dark coloured skin are discriminated. It also means no promotion, no highly paid job and no space for them in university.

It ached my heart to see such discrimination that actually exists. Nevertheless, it's a meaningful movie, never doubt your ability and give up on your dream. Go for it and create your own miracle.

Tuesday 31/1/17

Met up with the clique on the fourth day of CNY  and also first day of work after we were back from our long weekend. Today is the start of my unbearable one month.

The 6 of us gathered again, our last full attendance was during Christmas eve celebration. We fixed our dinner gathering at Miam Miam @ Bugis Junction.

Ryden ordered this chicken salad for sharing.
The chicken was tender and delicious. This salad is super for people who want to have low calories meal. The chicken will make you feel full, not to worry that you will get hungry very fast.

I have Carbonara.
The creamy pasta tossed with bacon, mushroom, cheese and fresh egg yolk. The yolk was in a beautiful shape of orange. Smash the yolk and mix it thoroughly with the pasta so that every mouth will taste the aroma of the yolk.

The featured dish in Miam Miam - The French Toast.
The french toast was toppled with fresh made whipped cream and maple syrup, enhancing the flavour of the toast and making it savoury sweet with every bite.

Yogurt and valrhona chocolate souffle.
Indulge in a heavenly decadent melted chocolate on top of our soufflé. We top up another $1.50 to get a yogurt.

It was a great dinner gathering, I love being with this group of people. I may not have a lot of friends, but having a few groups of true friends is more than enough for me.

See you girls soon again.

School Tales Horror Movie Review + Charcoal Thai

It was indeed a night of Thai affairs with my 四面夏娃. We started off the night with watching a Thai horror movie and ended the night with mookata.

Met up with the girls at Shaw Theatre @ Nex for the movie. It's been a long time since I last watched horror movie as I'm not really a big fan of horror movie. I haven't meet up with them since Christmas so I decided to join in for the movie. Thanks GF for bringing me to the movie.

Every school has its tales of horror and mystery…
And the best time to share these school tales is during camp where the students have to stay in the school.

In this movie, the marching band is staying over at the school for their annual camp. A group of members gathered together after their band practice to share about the school ghost tales that have been passed down through generation. Since the night is still young, the 7 of them except the leader (Ohm) decide to “test” if some of their school’s ghostly tales are for real by spliting in pairs for ghost hunting.

However, when the group returns, 3 of them (one in each pair) are missing.

Tale 1 explored by Top and Net.

Top and Net went over to explored an abandoned building to test their luck if they can see the ghost of Yak.

A big size, slow-witted student was always being bullied by his classmates and the students called him “Giant”. One day, Giant was tricked into an abandoned building in the school. He panicked, ran and fell to death from a staircase. After the incident, students avoid going to the building and those who wander near would hear a voice asking “Where are you?”…

Tale 2 explored by Song and Pete.

The library is haunted. The ghost with a hideous face will appear if someone goes to the library when it’s empty and disrupt the peace. The ghost will go "Shhhh". If anyone hears that, they are doomed.

Song and Pete wandered around the library. Suddenly one of them dropped a book and the "Shhh" sound was heard..............

Tale 3 explored by May and Cream.

In the band’s rehearsal room, Pawadee's spirit will be summon if someone plays 9 specific notes on a flute in front of the mirror.

The band leader, Ohm, together the girl he loves, Pun, went to uncover the mystery behind the tales, helping the spirits to find closure and rest in peace.

The graphic of the movie is not that scary but the sound effect makes it scary.
The movie reminded me of the old times during our camp in school where we gathered in a circle at night to tell ghost stories. The only difference is we didn't specified stories on ghost tales and we don't go around exploring. I always experienced hard time sleeping in classroom so I opt to do sentry duty and keep watch while the others were asleep.

Right after the movie, we met up with Ryden and Kelvin for a dinner gathering. This dinner was also to celebrate GF's birthday in advance before she heads off to her Japan trip.
Happy birthday in advance.

My first time trying out mookata at Charcoal Thai. They were having promotion on the mookata buffet so we decided to try on that.

We just whack on the ordering because we settled down at 9pm and last ordering was 9.30pm.
We ordered plates of meat, vegetables, meatballs, tofu and etc.

We were so hungry by then.
Let's start digging.

We swiped clean 54 plates of items in less than 2 hours. The restaurant supposed to close at 10.30pm but we ate till 10.50pm. Really the last customer leaving.

We felt satisfied after a sumptuous meal.
It was already 12am when I reached home, how I wish it was a weekend the next day.

Happenings in January - Food and Outing

Monday 2/1/17

Post-holiday blues.
I'm just back from my getaway trip to JB. Thankfully, we still have another day to rest before the start of work in 2017.

Ended the last day of my rest day with dinner at Ju Hao Xiao Long Bao.

Ju Hao brings us authentic Northern Chinese fare served in a contemporary Chinese restaurant. This is my first time dining at Ju Hao. Lucky we were early, it get a bit packed during dinner time.

I have pork cutlet fried rice at $11.80++ that makes me feel full.

With the fun and good food enjoyed over the long weekend, I felt recharged and ready to face work in the new year.

Passing bf his belated Christmas gift.
He has eyeing a nerf gun for a long time, so I got him one during this Christmas. Hope you like the gift.

The next public holiday will be Chinese New Year, we will be welcoming the year of Rooster. 20 over more days to go.

Friday 6/1/17

Made my second visit back to Tsukada Nojo Bijin Nabe 美人鍋 at Chinatown Point.
I have a bowl of Bijin Men Shio ramen, the original flavour of collagen and also the best seller ramen at $16.80++.

It comes with the ramen and ingredients separated.
We then add the ingredients we like into the broth. I just dump everything into the broth.

The end product.
I love the nourishing collagen soup broth that is good for our skin. The 4 ladies all love it.
I have been feeding myself with all the good food lately. We live to eat.

Saturday 7/1/17

Welcome the first weekend of 2017.
Finally weekend is here again, time to head out and enjoy the day.

Headed over to Bugis for some shopping.  I didn't purchase any item though, didn't see anything I fancy too. Ever since I have been travelling frequently to JB for shopping, I don't feel like buying stuffs from here as the price has started to increase for clothes selling at Bugis Village.

Stopped by at Churro 101 for my lunch cum tea break. I didn't want to have something full so Churro 101 is my choice.

Churro 101, It’s a place where everything is better than a boyfriend :D
Wow, that is their slogan.

I ordered the set that comes with Cinnamon churro and vanilla ice cream at a price of $6.20.
The original churro is toppled with Cinnamon Sugar, crispy on the outer and soft on the inner. It was served piping hot. I have an indulgence of hot and cold treat.

Laze around at Bugis while waiting for the appointment time to change phone. Bf was getting a new Oppo phone.

Done with the walking at Bugis, we then headed over to Marina Square for a walk and dinner.
Feeling kinda of bored and running out of ideas of where to spend our weekend.

Settled our dinner at Collin's again.
This was my fourth visit to Collin's. I was first introduced to Collin's through a food tasting and I love their food that is price valuable.

I have carbonara. The portion is just nice for me, I finished every bite. Usually I will something here and there, won't be able to finish everything but there is an exception.

Subday 8/1/17

Sunday is another day out again.
I love how my weekend is packed with activities that keep me busy.

In my causal wear out to VivoCity for dessert and dinner.

We went to our new favourite dessert shop at Honeymoon Dessert.
Black pearl in vanilla sauce with blueberry ice cream. The vanilla sauce complements the blueberry ice cream, they tasted so delicious when consume together.

We always love forward to our dates and cherish the time spent together.

We have a walk around the outdoor area of VivoCity before heading for dinner.
We have our dinner at Seah Im Food Centre.

I have chicken chop at $6.80 from The Iron Plate, a full and satisfied meal to eat our weekend.

That's all for sharing today, I will be back to update more soon.
Good night.

Looking back at 2016

Another year has passed.

2016 has been a year filled with joy as well as depressing moments. Nevertheless, those moments were over. What doesn't kill you make you stronger. Just learn from the mistakes or lessons and turn myself into a better person. Life is too short to stay unhappy.

2016 has also been a joyful year for me. I started to travel around visiting different places and gain many new experiences. It has broaden my horizon and urge me to travel more. Gonna save up money for more travelling.

Having a blog is one of the amazing things that I ever did. Though it requires a lot of time and efforts to maintain a blog, I really enjoy doing all of this, like recording down all the beautiful memories, the things happening in my life and preserving these precious memories. During my free time, I will look back at some of these old posts to reminisce the old good times.

Let me share with you my fond memories of 2016:

January 2016

Made my first visit to Alive Museum with the lovely companions. It was really a fun experience posing for photos, something different from the usual gathering. Alive Museum provided many beautiful and Instagram worthy backdrop for phototaking.

February 2016

We decided to leave our busy city and traveled to the neighbouring state, Johor Bahru (JB), for a well deserving weekend doing some of our favourite things like eating, shopping, singing and most importantly, spending quality time together. Travelling is always enjoyable with your close friends.
Thanks Kelvin and GF for organising this trip.

March 2016

I have an enjoyable food tasting session with the gang where we catch up with one another while enjoying the delicious meal.

April 2016

I was being introduced to Old Boys Gallery Tapas Bar & Restaurant, a great place to chill out for a good food and fantastic beer. The vibrant colours of the art pieces instantly lifted up my mood. The ambiance made me feel at ease, Old Boys Gallery is a place that you will enjoy with your friends. I'm sure I will be back for a visit again for the good food.

May 2016

Now that exam was over, it's time to reward myself with a pampering treatment. Doing gel nails has always been in one of my 'to do' lists. Thanks CL'athena Nails Salotto for inviting me to try out the service, I love my gel nails very much.

June 2016

I have a short getaway trip to Malaysia with my relatives. This was my second overseas trip with them. We have a good time exploring Malacca and fun time at Legoland Malaysia. We also have a cozy night at Hotel Equatorial. It's really had to find time spent with one another given our busy schedules. I really treasured the fruitful time spent together.

July 2016

2016 marked the first year of NDP's return to our new National Stadium located at the Sports Hub. So happy to score a pair of tickets to this year NDP preview. My first time winning the ballot for NDP.
I love my nation and I'm always so proud of her and proud to be a Singaporean.

August 2016

Love spending time with family and friends by having great food and quality talk.

September 2016

I love coming here, taking a stroll by the pond, admiring the nature and exploring around. First time heading up to OCBC Skyway. Looking at the beautiful scenery and taking a stroll around the garden really helped in de-stress, I felt so much better. Energy recharged.

October 2016

A good weekend to me will be indulging in good food with great companion, enjoying some sight-seeing and shopping. It's been 4 months since I last visited Malaysia so I decided to visit our neighbouring state, Johor Bahru (JB), for shopping and eating.
I enjoyed myself during this half day trip to JB, can't wait to go back again for the good food and shopping.

November 2016

Johor Bahru KSL City Mall: D' Shanghai Dim Sum + Imperial Reflexology

The place I want to go after I finished my exam is Johor Bahru (JB), I want to go in for feasting and shopping. With exchange rate of S$1: RM$3.1, we can feast without worrying that the bill will become a bomb. I have been travelling to Malaysia a lot this year, so happy each time I visit. Always bring something back home.

December 2017

Johor Bahru Day 1: New York Hotel + Zoo Johor + KSL City Mall

Travelling does not means that we have to travel to far places, it can also be done by visiting the neighbouring island or cities. There will still be lots of interesting places or beauty that we yet to visit. With just 3 days to spare, we decided to visit Johor Bahru (JB) for our short getaway trip.

Visited the zoo where the ticket admission only cost RM2 per pax. For the price paid, it is definitely worth the price to check out the zoo if you have ample time to spare. Do set aside at least 1.5 hours for exploring the zoo.

**

May 2017 be a great year for all of us.
And more travelling in 2017.
