Beauty Review: Curél Sebum Care

Do you have sensitive and oily skin types like me?

Sometimes finding the right skincare can be very challenging especially for us as many of the skincare products are catered to only either oily or sensitive skin.

Do you know that excess sebum can aggravate skin sensitivity?

A lot of us who have both conditions – skin sensitivity and oily skin tend to place more emphasis on choosing products that help with their skin sensitivity. This is not enough. Excess sebum generated will deteriorate as skin gets more alkaline, turning into irritants to cause flare-ups within the skin layers.

Hence it is important to choose products that efectively control skin sensitivity while reducing sebum secretion from the source.

Thankfully, Curél came to my rescue.

Curél is Japan’s No. 1 brand for sensitive Asian skin. It is a trusted skincare brand in Japan developed from over 30 years of dermatological research and endorsed by over 4,000 dermatologists in Japan and Asia.

Curél introduces a new skincare range specially formulated for sensitive and oily or combination skin types. The Curél Sebum Care range - comprising a Foaming Wash, Lotion and Moisture Gel, offering the skincare essentials to properly manage both skin sensitivity and sebum secretion

Cause of sensitive skin: Lack of ceramide

Ceramide is the essential ingredient in skin as it replenishes and helps retain moisture, strengthening the skin’s resilience as a natural barrier against external irritants. The lack of ceramide weakens this natural barrier, causing skin to be more susceptible to irritants

Cause of oily skin: Excess sebum secretion

Diet and changes in hormone levels can lead to excess sebum secretion. Not only does this result in an unwanted oily shine on the face, excess sebum on skin that is not thoroughly removed can be damaging to the skin as well.

Healthy skin has a pH level of 5.5. When the pH level of skin changes, excess sebum disintegrates into an irritating substance that penetrates into the skin and causes skin sensitivity from within.

When the skin’s barrier function is weakened due to the lack of ceramide, it will be even more susceptible to the damage from disintegrated sebum.

Let's see how Curél Sebum Care’s dual function can control sensitivity and sebum.

Strengthening skin barrier function

Curél has made ceramide the key ingredient for all its products. Its hydrating and penetrating moisture-retaining ceramide care is widely recognised by dermatologists in Japan and Asia.

Apart from effectively restoring ceramide function in skin, Curél Sebum Care range also protects the skin’s natural ceramide while cleansing, effectively replenishes ceramide and retains moisture. When skin stays supple and fully moisturised, it is better protected against external irritants.

Oil and acne control

Using one of the main ingredients found in royal jelly (10-hydroxydecanoic acid) that is known for its inhibitory effect on excess sebum secretion, Curél developed its unique sebum zero-in control technology, which targets and regulates sebum excretion from deep within the skin to control the root of the problem.

Curél Sebum Care range is also specially formulated to re-balance skin at its optimal pH level, preventing sebum from disintegration. Infused with antiphlogistic, an active ingredient that relieves inflammation, the range helps prevent the occurrence of acne as well.

Let's start off with the Curél Sebum Care routine:

Curél Sebum Care Foaming Wash

Retail price: $19.80 / 150ml

Ultra fine foam with sebum solvent to throughly cleanse dirt and excess sebum while protecting ceramide - the essential component in skin for resilience against external irritants.

Apply two full pumps directly onto wet skin, gentle massage and rinse off thoroughly.

Look at the rich foam, I love it.

My review:

After cleansing, my skin feel supple and soft, no tight feeling. It cleanses my skin well, making my skin feel comfortable.

Curel Sebum Care Lotion

Retail price: $24.90 / 150ml

The lotion is a non-sticky formula that prepares our skin for better absorption of moisturiser / essence that is used after the lotion.

The texture is like water.

After cleansing, apply lotion gently over the whole face.
Apply twice daily, in the morning and at night.

My review:

The fragrance-free lotion made my skin feels refreshing and cool. The texture is watery and it feels like applying water on face. It allows my skin to stay hydrated and revitalized, my makeup also last longer than usual.

Curel Sebum Care Moisture Gel

Retail price: $34.90/120ml

This is a liquid based moisture gel that spreads easily for speedy absorption into deeper layers of skin without leaving skin sticky.

Apply three to four pumps gently over the entire face.
Apply twice daily, in the morning and at night

My review:

Though the texture for moisture gel is thicker than the lotion, it gets absorbed into skin very fast, leaving my skin feeling smooth. It does not leave any sticky feeling after application. My skin is no longer as greasy as before, it aids in oil control. Usually my skin will shine with oil about 2 hours after cleansing, but now after 2 hours, my skin still remains supple. Not only that, my blemishes have cleared a lot too.

Here is the result after trying Curél Sebum Care for 14 days. I'm so satisfied with the result. My big red zap has cleared.

These three products work hand-in-hand to protect, replenish, and retain the skin’s natural ceramide to maintain the skin’s barrier function and reduce sebum secretion.

Dermatologically tested, fragrance-free, colorant-free, alcohol-free, allergy-tested and non-comedogenic (do not clog pores), Curél Sebum Care range is the complete solution to the delicate problem of sensitive skin for oily and combination skin types.

Curél Sebum Care range is now available in Singapore at selected Guardian and Watson’s stores.
