Therapeutic Dermatologic Formula (TDF) Blogger Skincare Workshop

It is every girl's dream to have a perfect glowing and flawless skin.

Being a beauty and lifestyle blogger, we are expected to look good in pictures or even up close and personal.

Therefore, having red, unsightly spots on our face can be traumatising and socially awkward. Having breakouts and pimple scars had resulted in me having low self-confidence. In the world today where everyone is seeking to be perfect, having those red spots make me feel so out of place. It can be a hassle when loose powder and concealer could not even fully cover the ugly spots.

Fortunately, TDF was here to provide the solutions for oily and acne-ridden skin. Continue reading to find out how you can treat, repair and prevent persistent acne blemishes from recurring, and achieve the flawless skin.

Established in USA in 1994, Therapeutic Dermatologic Formula (TDF) is a pioneer in AHA glycolic acid formulations and a respected name in the field of aesthetic dermatology. TDF's aim to improve skin health and thereby raise self esteem of those with problematic skin. Arriving at Cafe @ The Showroom.

I was here together with the two early birds - Vanessa and Priscilla.

While waiting for the workshop to get start, we had some light refreshment. The refreshment just came in perfect timing as I had not taken my lunch.

We had the first speaker - Dr Calvin Chan, Director of Calvin Chan Aesthetic & Laser Clinic who will be sharing with us the causes, cures and prevention of acne.

So what exactly is Acne?

Acne is actually a blocked pores or follicles that is caused by overproduction of skin cells and excess oil hardens into plugs. This has resulted in bacteria growing in my skin cells.

Both teenagers and adult experienced acne problems. Let's find out the cause of each:

Causes of Teenage Acne

- Major hormonal increases, rev up oil production leading to more pore blockages.
- Hygiene issues or too much makeup can also contribute to the problem

Causes of Adult Acne

- overproduction of sebum which can clog pores, attract bacteria and become inflamed.
- imbalance in both male and female hormones
- Some medications and cosmetics can contribute to the development of acne
- Genetics also plays a part.

Topical Treatments and Skin Care

- AHA wash
- AHA and antibacterial lotion
- Antibiotic treatment gel
- Oral antibiotics for serious and persistent acne
- Whitening lotion to lighten post-inflammatory scarring from acne
- Sunblock
- Mineral makeup to protect skin and soothe sensitivity

Our second speaker, Christina Lim, the expert in AHA glycolic acid, shares her knowledge with all the attentive participants.

What is AHA?

AHA is known as Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (or fruit acids) that is derived from fruits and milk sugars.

Glycolic Acid is the smallest molecule amongst all the AHAs. Therefore, it is the easiest to penetrate through the skins. It loosens bonds between surface cell, unclogs pores and removes dead cell buildup. Thus, it renews cell and improve barrier function in long term.

Take a look at some of the AHA Enhancement Products.

Okay, let's get hands on! Christina was going to demonstrate Glycolic Acid Peel.

And the lovely model - Nurain before the peel.

Glycolic Acid Peel stimulates exfoliation of epidermal cells in the stratum corneum, promoting cellular renewal.    It lightens pigmentation disorders by dispering basal layer melanin. Thus, restoring hydration and plumpness through an increase in hyaluronic acid and collagen density.

TDF Chemical Peel system allows spot neutralization so it reduces any risk of burn on areas where your skin in thinner.

Did you spot the difference?

Her complexion has brightened up after the chemical peel exfoliation.

- Hydrate yourself with lots of water
- Always apply sunblock when you head out
- Never sleep with your make-up on
- Use the basic 3 steps - Cleanser, toner and moisturizer.
